AMMA crisis: Kadavanthra police say no ground to book Tini Tom based on Ansiba’s complaint The Kadavanthra police have decided not to register a case over a complaint filed by actor Ansiba Hassan against fellow actor Tini Tom, accusing him of making communal and defamatory remarks against her. In a report submitted to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam Central, the station house officer of Kadavanthra stated that the investigators could not find solid grounds to register a first information report following a preliminary investigation, an officer confirmed on Saturday (June 27, 2026). Hassan in her complaint had reportedly stated that she came across the defamatory and communal comments made by Mr Tom against her through another actor. The police had recorded the statements of several people including Ms. Tom, former president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) Shweta Menon as part of the preliminary probe. Hassan has, meanwhile, moved a court seeking registration of a case against Mr. Hassan had earlier cited the alleged harassment by Mr. Tom as a reason for her resignation as the joint secretary of the AMMA.

Warehouse collapse: Mazdoor Cell seeks FIR against former mayor Firhad Hakim, two ex-councillors The Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Cell (BJMC) has lodged a police complaint seeking registration of an FIR against former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim and ex-councillors Anwar Khan and Shams Iqbal, alleging their role in permitting illegal constructions that allegedly led to recent building and warehouse collapses in the city, a senior police officer said. The complaint was submitted by the BJMC, South Kolkata district, at Taratala police station on Thursday (June 25, 2026) in the wake of the warehouse collapse on Transport Depot Road in Taratala that claimed at least 16 lives, he said. In its complaint, the organisation alleged that repeated incidents of building and warehouse collapses in the Kolkata Port area were the result of unauthorised constructions, gross negligence and possible criminal conspiracy. It sought a detailed probe into the role of Hakim, and Anwar Khan and Shams Iqbal, former councillors of ward number 80 and 134, respectively. The complainant also demanded the immediate registration of an FIR, identification of all those responsible for the alleged illegal constructions, and legal action against the three individuals in accordance with the law. It further urged authorities to inspect similar unsafe structures in the area to prevent future tragedies. A senior Kolkata Police officer confirmed receipt of the complaint but said no FIR had been registered so far. "We have received the written complaint, and it is under examination.

Karnaprayag clash: Arrested Nihang Sikhs may move court for bail The four Nihang Sikhs arrested in connection with the recent clash in Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district are likely to approach the court for bail in the coming days, official sources said on Saturday (June 27, 2026). According to the sources, if the court grants them bail, the administration may allow them to return to their home State of Punjab. This move is expected to ease the situation that arose following the dispute in Karnaprayag on June 16. The arrest of the four Nihangs had earlier led to a standoff at the Nagrasu gurdwara in the Rudraprayag district. The standoff ended after three days on June 23 following the intervention of a Sikh delegation. Later, on the night of June 25, a group of Nihang Sikhs forcibly entered Uttarakhand through the Kulhal border in the Dehradun district, which adjoins Himachal Pradesh, demanding the release of the arrested men. Officials managed to persuade them to return to Paonta Sahib. However, officials clarified that the release of the accused depends entirely on court orders.
