In the dynamic landscape of the legal profession, the pivotal role played by law teachers cannot be understated. They teach and guide future lawyers who will influence and shape society and the justice system.

The Law Teachers Conclave recognizes the significance of this role, and seeks to empower the educators to excel in their mission of nurturing the next generation of legal professionals.

The Conclave is not just an event; it's a movement to bring together law teachers from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and expertise onto a common platform, with the aim to foster professional growth, facilitate knowledge sharing, and offer networking opportunities.

The first edition of the Conclave focuses on Pedagogy.

Legal pedagogy, like the ever-evolving sphere of law itself, is not static. As societal norms, technological advancements, and legal frameworks undergo transformations, the manner and content of legal education must parallelly adapt. The conventional classroom setting is fast becoming outdated, necessitating a paradigm shift among educators. This shift involves adapting to new technologies, cultivating inclusivity, celebrating diversity, and redefining engagement strategies, all the while grappling with the challenge of shrinking attention spans.

It is our duty, as educators, to ensure that the next generation of legal professionals is not only well-versed in their field but also adept at navigating the complexities of the global stage. This makes it imperative for legal educators to come together, recalibrate, and equip themselves for the future.

The conclave will discuss the diverse and pervasive challenges, faced by legal educators in their ever-evolving roles. It will bring the voices of different stakeholders of the industry to share their views on Pedagogy. This will help the teachers understand what works and what doesn't, and how to better prepare students for the real world. Last but not the least, in the Key Panel the senior educators will discuss the practices they've found most effective, the challenges they've encountered, and the innovative solutions they've developed in response.

Whether you're a seasoned educator or new to the world of legal teaching, there's something for everyone to take away.

  • ‘Plain’ English as the Language of the Law: What ails the language of the law; how it continues to survive, and why it must change!

Non-lawyers find the language of the law incomprehensible. And what makes the “language of the law” incomprehensible is the accumulated baggage of words and conventions gathered and retained over centuries. To the extent that “English” as used by the profession is considered different from common speech “English”. As law educators who train the new lawyers who will join the industry, we are the best group where plain English movement can start.
