The southern bench of the National Green Tribunal asked the Tamil Nadu Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply and the Greater Chennai Corporation to explore the use of incinerators, similar to those operating in Gujarat and other States, particularly to process bio-mined waste. Hearing a suo motu case on Chennai's legacy waste, the bench comprising Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana and expert member Sujit Kumar Bajpayee noted on October 26 that legacy waste remediation remained a major challenge and called for exploring additional options. The MAWS Department reported that bioremediation of waste at Kodungaiyur and Perungudi is expected to be completed by May 2027, and Athipattu by December 2026. The Greater Chennai Corporation's status report said it operates wet waste processing facilities, including Bio-CNG plants, micro composting centres, windrow composting facilities and garden waste processing units, and outlined proposals for additional facilities at Madhavaram, Chetpet, Sholinganallur and Koyambedu. It said segregated wet and dry waste is being transported separately until these facilities become operational, and that enumeration of bulk waste generators and appointment of nodal officers have been initiated. The NGT posted the matter for further hearing on January 20, 2027.

The Directorate of Enforcement provisionally attached movable and immovable assets worth approximately ₹85.19 crore in its investigation against M/s Dream Makers Global Private Limited and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The investigation was initiated based on an FIR registered by the Economic Offences Wing, Coimbatore, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors Act and the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act. According to the ED, DMGPL and its key managerial personnel allegedly collected money from thousands of depositors under the pretext of investment in software projects and packages with promises of high daily returns and doubling of investments in 150 days. While initial returns were paid, the company later defaulted, causing substantial losses to investors. The investigation revealed that approximately ₹400 crore was credited to three principal bank accounts of DMGPL. The funds were allegedly diverted through multiple accounts, cash withdrawals and payments to associates, and used to acquire properties, vehicles, gold ornaments and other assets. Diversion of funds for personal benefits and payment of heavy commissions to agents were also identified. The ED conducted searches and surveys at premises linked to the company on June 30, 2026, seizing documents and electronic devices. Further investigation is under way.

The Delhi High Court dismissed the NIA's appeal against a trial court order granting bail to Mateen Ahmed Bhat, an alleged over-ground worker in a Jammu and Kashmir terror conspiracy case. A bench of Justices Navin Chawla and Arun Bhardwaj held that the trial court had passed the order after properly considering the restrictions on grant of bail under UAPA and examining whether the accusations against Bhat were prima facie true. The court further said the bail order was neither a final conclusion on the evidence nor a discharge of the accused, and it deemed the subsequent framing of charges against Bhat irrelevant while deciding the NIA's appeal. The case relates to an alleged larger conspiracy involving the activities of proscribed terrorist organisations and the use of online platforms and local operatives to spread unrest in J&K. The High Court observed that an appeal against the grant of bail has a limited scope and that interference is warranted where the bail order is shown to be illegal, perverse, arbitrary or based on irrelevant considerations.

Delhi Police busted an organized cyber fraud network that allegedly operated from West Delhi, targeting victims in southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu, by promising financial benefits like loans and scholarships. The investigation began after police detected suspicious patterns in bank accounts and transactions linked to cybercrime complaints on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and the SAMVANYA portal. Authorities arrested four individuals—Amit Kapoor, Shiva Singh Chaudhary, and S Gaurav—along with Seraj Ansari, and bound over five women telecallers. The network allegedly orchestrated the fraud by having victims transfer money using shared UPI IDs and QR codes under false pretenses of financial aid. The collected funds were later withdrawn through ATMs by network members. Police recovered Rs 45,170 in cash, 21 mobile phones, 10 notepads, and extensive customer and victim records.
