New Delhi, The Digital Communications Commission, the apex decision-making body at the Department of Telecom, has approved most of the recommendations made by sector regulator Trai to allocate spectrum for satellite communications services, according to sources. Elon Musk-led Starlink, Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Reliance Industries Ltd's Jio Satellite Communications have received permission to start satcom services in India. The services, however, cannot be rolled out without spectrum allocation and the second stage of security clearance from security agencies. "DCC in its meeting held on September 3 has approved the majority of recommendations made by Trai on satcom spectrum," a source aware of the development said. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) in May 2025 recommended that satellite broadband spectrum be allotted for five years, which can be extended by another two years. The regulator had recommended a levy of 4 per cent of annual revenues as a fee on satcom service providers like Elon Musk's Starlink, but sources said that DoT was of the view to levy 5 per cent instead of 4 per cent suggested by the regulator. Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon Inc's subsidiary Kuiper Systems had, during consultations with the Trai, urged it to keep spectrum charge below 1 per cent of AGR with no other charges.

Media regulator Coimisiun na Mean has the power to apply a fine of up to 10% of "relevant annual turnover" under Ireland's Online Safety Code. Under the code, age assurance is required to ensure that children do not see videos "depicting pornography or extreme/gross and gratuitous violence or acts of cruelty," the regulator said in a statement announcing the investigation. X did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Its website says the company takes a "multi-faceted age assurance approach to verify or estimate whether users are 18 or under." In its statement the regulator also cited concerns that parental controls put in place by X "may not be effective, do not have minimum requirements, are hard to locate and are not brought to the attention of new users at sign-up stage." Nainital Police register FIR against ‘unknown persons’ for performing ‘purification’ of Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally venue Almost a month after ‘shuddhikaran’ (purification) ritual conducted at Haldwani’s Ramlila ground following a rally addressed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on August 8, the Nainital Police on Tuesday (September 8, 2026) lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against ‘unknown persons’ for the conduct. On August 11, members of the Shri Ram Sena Dharmarth Seva Nyas Sangathan conducted a ‘shuddhikaran yagna’ (purification yagna) at the venue. Video of the ritual went viral on social media in which all the participants were visible performing the hawan. A few of them also interacted with the media post the event. Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC told the media that the FIR was registered against unknown persons on the complaint of Congress worker Anju, who, according to him, was the first person to submit a complaint in connection with the matter. “We have received various petitions and complaints in this matter....this was also one of them. The FIR was lodged after due diligence,” said the SSP, adding that investigation in the matter would be done by Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jagdish Chandra. He added that the case had been registered under Sections 196 and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 3(1)(R) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The development comes after the Congress had repeatedly demanded police action against those who performed purification of the rally venue of party’s national president alleging that the same was done because Mr.

According to a complaint filed by four former warehouse employees, Amazon routinely violates federal and New York worker-protection laws by denying pregnant workers basic accommodations such as chairs, bathroom and water breaks, and time off for prenatal appointments. The complaint said Amazon threatens and regularly fires pregnant employees who miss too much work, and illegally demands medical documentation from those seeking accommodations. It said these actions violate the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and New York labor law. Kelly Nantel, an Amazon spokesperson, said the retailer provides pregnancy-related accommodations to tens of thousands of employees annually, and approved more than 99.9% of requests in the last year. "Ensuring the health and well-being of our employees is one of our greatest responsibilities," she said. The lawsuit seeks lost pay and benefits, punitive damages, and an injunction against discrimination against pregnant employees. Amazon has long faced complaints in court about its treatment of employees, including those seeking to unionize.

He highlighted the growing role of technology in improving financial services, including real-time supervision and more efficient financial infrastructure.
